SAMIRA

a Shamanic Sound Ceremony

Samira1.jpeg

SAMIRA which translates to WIND in Sanskrit. The wind is what sound is carried on. Our sounds are never planned and are without words. These sounds channel through us for healing. This allows for the mystery and magic to unfold. Our intention is to bring ceremony back into our mixed culture that has lost touch with the sacred. We believe no matter your religious background or culture that we can all connect to the sacred spirit within.

Let us take you on a journey that incorporates the sounds and practices of many cultures together to help create states of healing. This will be a sound ceremony to honor each and everyone’s ability to feel deeper into their own connection to the sacred.

We choose to do these events every full moon as to bring strength to our prayers and stay on a cycle of continuous gathering like many have done for thousands of years. Every month has an astounding new hand picked musician that I feel can channel the frequencies for a shamanic journey. There will always be an Indigenous person to open the ceremony and call in the directions.

Please bring a yoga mat, blankets, and a pillow. There are only so many provided.

Come with an intention and your prayers.

Queer Munch-Rope Jam with Cass & Devon, DualDemons.png

Most Tuesdays 6-10pm
$10-$20

Our purpose is to create a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed queer-driven space where people can explore and express themselves. As educators and community organizers, we have been focused on facilitating spaces where people, particularly those new and inexperienced, can build out and discover things that bring them joy in the company of like-minded people who have differing levels of experience and perspective. We believe that a diverse coalition of people allows for a community that is truly supportive and representative of all. No one turned away for lack of funds. Check our Big Theater Calendar for class times & dates.

Swing Dance

Swing-dance-Aug2023.jpeg

6-week series starts August 17th

7pm

Santa Cruz Swing began in response to the growing interest and excitement the Santa Cruz community has shown for swing dancing. Our teachers have been partner dancing and swing dancing for over a decade and want to bring the silly, playful, fun nature of swing dancing to the dance floor. We offer a beginner class, great for everyone from total novices to more experienced dancers, who want to improve their partner dancing and learn the styles of the swing era. We also offer an intermediate class, which is best for those dancers who already know the 8 count step, have learned the basics of a swingout, and who find themselves able to follow or lead nearly any 6 count move with ease on the social dance floor.
